MWC 2023: Our Takeaways from the Barcelona Trade Show

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

Following last year’s exciting trade show after a long Covid-break, Nowtilus was glad to be one time more among the exhibitors of MWC23 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.

Last week Mobile World Congress was a real triumph, gathering over 88,500 attendees from 202 countries and territories, almost equaling the results of the 2019 edition, before the pandemic. “MWC Barcelona is back in full force. The level of energy and support from partners, businesses, and policymakers has exceeded our hopes and expectations,” said GSMA Ltd’s CEO, John Hoffman.

Nowtilus and its ad insertion platform Serverside.ai were again present at the German Capital Region Booth, surrounded by and part of the vibrant Berlin tech scene.

Our fully-fledged Leadership Team was there to meet customers and partners, showcase live demonstrations, collect inspiration, and engage in business think tanks, both regional and international.

A lot of visitors stepped in, curious about our service and we explained to them how SSAI differs from the classic client-side ad insertion approach and its undeniable benefits for publishers, advertisers, and viewers.

We also introduced to the public the main updates of Serverside.ai, including the first insights into our audio ad insertion platform for radio and podcasts, and our advanced solution for FAST Channels.

The focus of MWC23 was on the ongoing evolution and expansion of 5G technology and it is clear to everyone that, as the rollout of 5G networks continues, there will be increasing opportunities also for the MediaTech industry.

The Internet of Things (IoT) continued to be another central topic at the Mobile World Congress 2023, so the discussions around Connected Television were quite lively and we had the chance to meet in person with several telecommunication companies and TV device manufacturers.

European telcos are increasingly putting CTV strategies at the center of their focus, and this has been demonstrated by their growing interest in our solution.

Another major theme at this year’s trade show was the importance of environmental responsibility in the connectivity business. With the increasing awareness of the impact of climate change, companies are finally taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint and improve the sustainability of their activities.

Nowtilus also joined this global effort by developing its Emission Reduction Strategy at the end of 2022 and we plan to further increase our company commitment on this matter by working together with our partner network to make the AdTech sector a more sustainable one. “This year, we strongly experienced that the tight connection between the telecommunications industry, the broadcast sphere, and the CTV space has become more and more visible. We appreciated the insightful meetings we had with prospects and partners and we enjoyed the busy halls of Fira Gran Via a lot!” noted Nowtilus Co-Founder and Managing Director Patrick Knippel.

With almost 90,000 attendees, over 1,000 speakers, and more than 2,400 exhibitors, sponsors, and partners, the return to normalcy seems in fact finally sanctioned, and our company is pleased to be part of the industry at this vibrant time of new awareness and technical development.

If you did not manage to visit the Nowtilus Serverside.ai booth in Barcelona, you will find part of our team at the NAB Show in Las Vegas next month, from the 16th to the 19th of April, always putting forward the advantages of server-side ad insertion.

And now: Have a look at our new “Ad Snacks - Voices of MediaTech” video interview series with some of the deeply involved industry minds who stopped by our MWC booth.
